Downtown Tokyo, with Jordan

Eiji and Jordan exit Milliways into the middle of a large department store in downtown Tokyo.

Eiji blushes a little, remembering that they probably should have exited the fitting room one at a time. A woman walking by gives them a strange look.

"Okay, well just to warn you, my friends are weird," Eiji tells Jordan, pointing his thumb towards the door. "They're in a tennis shop a few doors down."

Eiji's mostly just appeased by the fact that Jordan is walking arm-in-arm with him, in front of his friends. He's blushing a little, but it makes him happy.

"What's the second step?" he asks, leaning in and half-whispering.

"Stop caring about it for real. That way, when he finally decides to fess up, everything he says will seem lackluster, boring or only mildly interesting at best." She nods, whispering back. "Perfect revenge for the taunting."

Eiji chuckles happily.

They turn a corner and come upon a tall building with a large blue sign. "All right, this is the store I was talking about," Ōishi says, pointing to it.

"Oh, I've been here," Fuji chimes in, cheerfully. "It's a good store."

"Isn't it kind of a girl's store?" Eiji asks.

"Not really. They have everything," Ōishi insists, but he's blushing a little. (He might have bought a few things here, when he went with his sister from time to time.) "Besides, Jordan is a girl..."

"Oh." Jordan smiles seeing the place. "I've heard of it, but never been here before."

While the other boys discuss if it is a girls' store or not, Jordan tugs Eiji along to go in.

There are probably tons of unread manga in there, and she plans to reverse that situation.

Welcome to nine floors of anime/manga heaven, Jordan.

The building is a bit narrow, so there's not a lot of stuff on each floor. She'll be able to read the sign as to how things are organized.

The first floor is magazines and a few snacks. It's also where you'd get tickets to the latest anime-related events, but that's probably not of interest.

The second floor says "books": meaning, lots and lots of manga. This floor is for mostly shonen series. The shelves look very similar to ones you'd find in a bookstore, and they are packed.

Third floor is for shojo series. All the titles on the bindings are red, and if you pull them out, many of the covers are pink or some related color.

The fourth floor has doujinshi and some merchandise. The comics are organized by series.

The fifth floor says "character goods"-- more fan-based merchandise. These are also organized by series, and tend to be cheap-looking little things like pins and notebooks and pencils and little sweat towels. Also stuffed toys.

The sixth floor has trading cards and figurines.

The seventh floor has CDs and DVDs. Everything up there is ridiculously expensive, though... No wonder piracy is so rampant in Japan. CDs are on the shelves, DVDs are on the wall. It's not just anime, either... There are some dramas and even anime-based musicals. Mostly anything with hot guys in it.

Eighth floor is video games. Nintendo DS games are on the shelves along with actual gaming systems, and everything else is on the walls.

The ninth floor isn't worth going up to, at least not today; it's an event space and nothing's going on.


Have fun! Eiji and the boys will probably follow Jordan around, maybe comment on some items near whatever she's looking at.

They will be dragged around... well, at least Eiji and Ōishi will.

The first to fourth floors hold her interest most of the time, she will go along rows and rows of books and magazines, checking everything for sale at the moment first, before committing to anything: her interest narrows down to mecha anime and manga, and some yuri and yaoi. Dōjinshi works receive extra, careful attention.

They better have a lot of free time...

Yes, Jordan will like the 3rd and 4th floors, then. Plenty of BL stuff on the third, and the walls of the 4th are covered with dōjinshi, organized by series and then by pairing.

The boys might be a little uncomfortable in those areas, but hey, they can deal, right?



(Well, actually, as a side note, Fuji doesn't seem uncomfortable at all. In fact he opens several-- at least the ones that aren't encased in plastic-- and tries to show Tezuka some of the more interesting sections.)

They have plenty of free time! Jordan can have them all afternoon, if she wants. They don't even have to be home for dinner.

Around the third hour, she narrowed her choices to original stories, discarding all clones and spin-offs.

Still an impressive stack of books and DVD's, but she is finally ready to cash out another half hour later.

"Are you buying all of that stuff?" Eiji asks, from where he's crouched on the floor. It's a slightly more comfortable position than standing, at least after standing for so long.

"Do you have enough money to pay for it all?" Ōishi checks.

Jordan giggles and nods. "I think so... even if I end without money, I have the train pass to get back to my hotel."

And it turns out she has just enough yen on her to pay for her purchases. But she will need help carrying it.

Ever the gentleman, Ōishi offers to help carry, but if Jordan needs more help she might have to physically shove some of it onto Eiji.

"Is there anywhere else you wanted to go?" Ōishi asks. Eiji looks at him like he's crazy.

Oh, Eiji is spared it, for now. "I don't think so... not right now at least?" She gives the two a bright smile. "Thank you, being tourist is much better when you have the right company."

They both smile back at her. "No sweat," Eiji winks. "Anytime," Ōishi agrees.

Fuji walks up, followed closely by Tezuka. "Oh, are we done here?" he asks. "Where to now?"

"Hmm..." Ōishi thinks. "I guess we could try to meet up with the others, if they haven't gone home already." He whips out his cell phone to text Inui.

She stands by Eiji, smiling.

Oh, Jordan is planning something, right?

Eiji blinks at her.

"What is it?"

"What is what?" For shame, Eiji! Jordan is the picture of innocence!

...

Right. But she probably does not plan conquering your world.

Eiji shrugs. "Nothing, I guess." He rubs the back of his head. He was just wondering if she moved to stand near him because she wanted to say something. But all the better if she just wanted to stand next to him!

Ōishi looks up from his phone. "Okay, they said we can meet them back at Shinjuku station, if we want." As an afterthought, he adds, "He didn't say what they'd been doing all this time, though."

"They were obviously up to no good." Jordan grins, slipping her right arm into Eiji's, and her other into Ōishi's.

She's ready to go.

And with that, they all head back to the station.

"So what all did you buy?" Fuji asks Jordan.

"Mostly stuff I don't have already or I don't have a close similar already." She walks between the two boys, passing the second Bag of Loot to Eiji.

Fuji peeks into the bag to give things a glance. "Good selection. That's quite a lot of stuff... you must have a lot of time on your hands."

Jordan shakes head. "No, I'm stocking up for weeks or months of reading: who knows when I'll have the chance to come here again?"

"Travel from America is rather expensive," Fuji agrees.

Only a few more minutes' walk to the station.

"Travel, and stay, and all the time." Jordan nods, agreeing. "I'm lucky I met Eiji."

Speaking of which, Eiji is the target of a bright smile.

Eiji blushes a little bit and smiles back.

"Where are you staying?" Fuji asks. He seems to be looking at Jordan somewhat carefully.
